Report on Pongal Celebrations in Vel Tech University – 13^th January 2016

Pongal is a Tamil harvest festival.  Pongal is mainly celebrated to convey appreciation to the Sun God for providing the energy for agriculture. It is the harvest festival that is celebrated throughout with joy and enthusiasm throughout the region. This great festival of God’s own country was celebrated in VelTech  Dr. RR and Dr. SR Technical University on 13/01/2016 at  C.K.Nayudu Stadium and Vel Murugan auditorium which is organized by Arts and Drama Club - VTU. 

The programme started at 10.00 a.m. in the morning with various sports activities for faculty and students like,

1) Hitting the Pot (Uri Adiththal),

2) Tug of War

3) Rangoli and

4) Pongal Making and

5) Traditional Dress Competition

The Prizes were given by  Dr. E.Kannan (Registrar), Dr. Anne Koteswara Rao   (Director Academics), Dr. A. Abudhahir (Dean–Freshmen Engg.), Dr.R.M. Suresh (Dean – SoEC), Mr. E. Kamalanaban. The programme ended with vote of thanks by our student Ms. Devapriya.M (VTU4787).  All the arrangements were done by the Department of Student welfare Team, Physical Education Team and Markers.
